Milan Tanvir Chokshi, founder of Moksh Jewellery, established his brand in 2004 with the aim of incorporating 'unseen jewels' into his pieces in an innovative way. True to his vision, Moksh has been using keshi pearls to craft jewellery for the past eight years.
Mughal and Islamic architecture, blended with modern aesthetics, inspired the Taantvi collection, named after the Sanskrit word meaning 'weave' - an intricate combination of lustrous keshi pearls and precious gems, crafted by weaving tiny keshi pearls to produce a mesh-like effect. Japanese keshi pearls are tiny, cultured pearls composed primarily of nacre that come in variety of different shapes.
Bracelets and bangles, known as chand balis, jhumkas and kangans in the Taantvi collection are worked with elaborate pearl meshwork and complemented with an assortment of gems, diamonds and metals. Each piece is unique due to the use of different materials and textures. Emeralds and rubies are accentuated by plating the gold settings with black rhodium and combining them with black and champagne diamonds.
The combination of precious stones and pearls has always been a signature style at Moksh. Meenal Choksi, creative director at Moksh Jewellery, says: "We are thrilled to be creating bespoke jewellery using keshi pearls. The designs will appeal to every woman and can be worn at all her special occasions." No wonder then that Indian celebrities Gauri Khan, Freida Pinto, Nimrat Kaur and Kareena Kapoor Khan have been spotted in Moksh jewellery.
The Taantvi collection is available at the Moksh Mumbai boutique and ranges in price from 150,000 to 600,000 INR.
