EDITOR'S REVIEW
Chopard is establishing a tradition for its spectacular Urushi lacquered dials entirely handcrafted in Japan by a master lacquer artist to celebrate the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. The rooster decorating the dial of this limited edition of 88 pieces is created from sap from the Japanese varnish tree – aged and treated to become a lacquer – which is then mixed with tiny fragments of mother-of-pearl to add light, radiance and texture to the composition. With his head held high and chest puffed out, the proud cockerel crows as the sun goes down surrounded by eight gladioli, both symbols of good luck in Chinese culture. The exceptional dial is housed in an elegant, ultra-slim 39.5mm rose gold case and equipped with an in-house mechanical automatic movement with a substantial 65-hour power reserve.
