Chanel watches has just given us our first glimpse of the new Boy.Friend timepiece, designed to be the kind of watch a woman might be tempted to borrow from her boyfriend’s bedside table because it looks so good on her wrist. The elegant balance of masculinity and femininity captures Mademoiselle Chanel’s penchant for appropriating clothes from men’s wardrobes and giving them her magical designer’s twist, creating a revolutionary and comfortable look for women.

Wearing an over-sized man’s shirt, snuggling up in his large cashmere jersey, dabbing his favourite aftershave on your wrists, or even getting into his worn-out boyfriend jeans are irresistibly sexy gestures. Gabrielle Chanel was way ahead of her time and would poach traditional men’s fabrics such as tweed and jersey for her feminine collections. She cut her hair short, freed women from constrained corsets and flaunted convention by wearing baggy men’s flannel trousers with rows upon rows of pearls around her neck.

The Chanel Boy.Friend watch is designed to seduce women with its masculine allure. Housed in the immediately recognisable Première watch case, the generous dimensions give it a nice, manly touch, softened with subtle polished and bevelled edges. The Première watch was in fact Chanel’s first women’s watch in 1987, and its clean-cut geometry was inspired by the octagonal perimeter of Place Vendôme - just like the stopper on the Nº5 bottle of perfume. When Chanel Nº5 was first launched in 1921, it stood out among all the other female bottles thanks to its simple, clean-cut masculine design.

The Boy.Friend watch comes in beige gold cases - an exclusive Chanel alloy designed to capture Coco’s love of glamorous warm beige - with the option of a diamond-set bezel, or in white gold cases set with diamonds. Two case sizes will be available: the larger case measuring 28.60 x 37mm, the medium 26.70 x 34.60mm.

The glossy opaline dial with its guilloché finish has no numbers to distract from its marked essence of purity and elegance. The larger Boy.Friend watches are equipped with a manual-winding mechanical movement with a small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, while the medium models come with a small date window at 6 o’clock and a maintenance-free quartz movement - ideal for women who can’t always remember to wind their watch on a regular basis.

With a starting price of £8,100 for the medium beige model without diamonds and a quartz movement, the latest, covetable collection of Chanel watches will be available in boutiques from September. But don’t worry, we’ll be sure to give you advance notice and a more extensive price coverage of all the models because we know how hard it is to find the right boyfriend when you want one.
