Chopard's Animal World collection celebrates the firm's 150th anniversary with a 150 piece collection of animal-themed gems. For the anniversary "Animal World" collection co-President of Chopard, Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele returned to her childhood and found inspiration in her favourite stuffed toys: a monkey and a rabbit. From here the idea grew to encompass a bestiary of animals from the exotic to the imaginary. For over a year, a team of craftsmen have been filling, tapping and polishing away to bring to life the dream world of "Animal World." The white gold stork set with black and white diamonds with an impressive 51carat pink briolette-cut kunzite in its beak took ninety hours of labour to complete. The gold tentacle of an octopus shimmering with 540 diamonds wraps itself around a golden pearl. Even more complex is the "Frog" necklace. A web of diamond, tsavorite and sapphire drops create a watery backdrop for the little amphibian resplendent in pink diamonds. Stretching to reach an emerald lily leaf, the frog is ever watchful of her cloud of eggs, represented by aquamarine cabochons. The shimmering web of the Clownfish plastron (or breast plate) is set with 2160 different stones including moonstone, aquamarines and icy quartz.
