The Golden Globe Awards are the first in a series of film awards that announce the hunting season for luxury goods officially open. Stalkers of high jewelry pieces, designer gowns and watches adjust their binoculars for a close-up view of who's wearing what. Brands understand the impact their products have when touted by a celebrity and deploy all their ammunition at these gala award events.
As one of the presenters of the Golden Globe Awards, British actor Colin Firth wore an elegant Chopard L.U.C watch in white gold with a black dial and black leather strap, the same model he wore to pick up his Oscar in 2011 for his role in The King's Speech. A dress watch to the core, the ultra-thin 39.5mm white gold case of the L.U.C XPS measures just 7.13mm. With hours, minutes and a small seconds counter this Chopard watch combines sober, classic styling with a sophisticated self-winding movement made by Chopard's manufacture, which is chronometer-certified by the COSC and boasts a power reserve of 65 hours.
British actor Eddie Redmayne, who won a Golden Globe for his role in The Theory of Everything, walked the red carpet wearing a Classic Manufacture Chopard watch in rose gold. Another classic dress watch, the 38mm rose gold case houses a white dial with black Roman numerals and a small seconds counter at 6 o'clock as well as a date window at 3 o'clock. The movement, produced in its entirety by Chopard, is a mechanical self-winding calibre with a 60-hour power reserve.
American actor Michael Keaton of Batman fame and fellow actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto all wore the same watch from Italian purveyor of style, Bulgari. Keaton's Bulgari Bulgari Solotempo, inspired by a Bulgari watch from 1977 with the double logo on the bezel and a white lacquered dial, comes in a 41mm stainless steel case with a steel bracelet. Powering the hours, minutes, central seconds hand and date window is a Bulgari self-winding caliber BVL 191 visible through the transparent caseback. McConaughey's Bulgari watch featured a black lacquered dial and black alligator strap while Leto opted for a yellow gold model.
Actors Adrien Brody and Kit Harrington, a.k.a. Jon Snow in the Game of Thrones, opted for a sportier chronograph version, the Bulgari Bulgari Velocissimo, without sacrificing an iota of his black tie look. The Velocissimo is a high-frequency chronograph (the higher the frequency, the greater the accuracy) with a column wheel mechanism and a generous 50-hour power reserve. The mechanical self-winding movement is beautifully finished and housed inside a 41mm steel or pink gold case with a transparent caseback. Brody wore his on a black alligator strap while Harrington opted for the sportier steel bracelet.
