Ai Weiwei is a Chinese contemporary artist who partnered with London jewellery gallery Elisabetta Cipriani to create "wearable sculptures" designed to look like reinforced bars used in construction (2015). The designs were inspired by his political activism, as Weiwei’s studio laboriously straightened each rod and stacked them one on top of one another to draw attention to the deaths that have occurred in China as a result of poor construction.
