Nisan Ongwuthitham's jewels are inspired by important themes and symbolism in Thai culture, especially animals, such as the elephant, tiger and naga (considered the king of snakes in Thailand). His other great love is flowers. He says, “I consider animals and flowers to be yin and yang. Animals are very powerful, while flowers are very soft. My flowers are not ordinary flowers. When you go into a Thai temple, you always see Buddha surrounded by flowers. I call these imaginary, stylised flowers, ‘nirvana flowers’ inspired by the imagery of Thai Buddhism.” His animal jewels are the product of his singular vision.
