  • The sale of the record-breaking Sunrise Ruby helped take the total sales at Sotheby’s Geneva to a dizzying $160.9 million, the highest total ever for a jewellery auction.

Founded in 1744 as a book auctioneer, Sotheby's has become the first international auction house to expand from London to New York, and the first to conduct sales in Hong Kong. Sotheby's has also created the BIDnow program, which allows visitors to view all auctions live online as well as enabling them to place bids from anywhere in the world.
