Yellow gold is what we generally think of as pure gold. It is golden or slightly reddish in colour. The higher the carat count, the purer the gold. Twenty-four carat is considered pure gold but too malleable for jewellery making. Eighteen carat is 75 per cent gold and 14 carat is 58.3 per cent gold. Yellow is the most hypoallergenic of all gold colours and requires very little maintenance to keep its sheen.
