Chanel go for a bold black and gold look with the new Première Onyx jewellery collection that alternates outsized ovals and rectangles for a dramatic effect. Chanel has a keen interest in all thinks black, and so onyx, that darkest of materials, takes centre stage in the new Première Onyx jewellery collection. Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel was fond of simple and dramatic effects. None more than the stark elegance of black and white, the colours of her uniform at the convent school she attended as a child. These new jewels, with their simple, graphic shapes and strong colour contrasts combine black onyx with white diamonds and gold. The collection has a pleasing 1970's feel to it with its big links and geometric forms, but being Chanel, a timelessness pervades the fleeting reference to style eras. I like the fact that the sautoir can be adapted to form a bracelet and short necklace or a longer chain. My favourite is the yellow gold sautoir that would look great against and ivory silk blouse.
