Designer brand Calvin Klein captured the zeitgeist for subverting gender boundaries when it launched its CK One fragrance back in the 1990s. French fashion chain Kooples then took the unisex concept one step further with its line of edgy his-and-hers clothing.And now there is the Jado Crown ring, a gender-free jewel that taps into the stacking ring trend and looks as fabulous on men as it does on women.
So cool, so brilliant and so very New York, these unisex stacking rings were launched recently by New York-based jewellery manufacturer Jado Inc. The ring is made up of four separate parts that can be stacked together in 21 different ways. Wear them on their own, all at once or combine two or three to create your preferred look.
Inspired by the planetary structure and cosmic patterns, the design consists of 12 curves that mirror the numerical patterns found in both nature and art. Available in yellow, rose and white gold or black rhodium-plated gold, the interlocking rings are decorated with diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
"After working in the jewellery industry for over two decades, I wanted to incorporate my philosophy on nature, beauty and mathematics in order to develop a ring that expressed the pinnacle of perfection in jewellery design," says founder William Jado. "The versatility of the Jado Crown ring allows anyone from any walk of life to express their moods and personal style."
As a manufacturer, Jado Inc has been producing fine jewellery for the likes of Tiffany & Co., Bochic Co, Mimi So and Isaac Mizrahi for the past two decades, but this is the first time the company has launched its own collection. The innovative construction that forms the basis for the Jado Crown is so unique that it has secured a patent and trademark to prevent other companies from replicating it.
The Jado Crown stackable rings were exhibited last week at Couture Fashion Week in New York. Available to buy through the Jado website, they are also coming soon to jewellery galleries and boutiques on both sides of the Atlantic.
