A diamond is probably one of Nature’s most perfect creations. As clear as water yet indestructible, the fire of a flawless diamond has captivated men and women for centuries.
And then, once in a blue moon, a man – or in this case a woman – finds a way to improve these perfect creations. The Louis Vuitton Monogram Star diamond cut has managed the impossible: to make a diamond even more brilliant, alluring and brimming with life.
Francesca Amfitheatrof, Artistic Director for Watches and Jewellery at Louis Vuitton explains: “This Louis Vuitton Monogram Star diamond cut is absolutely revolutionary. It is the most extraordinary cut that nobody else has ever dreamt of. It is the very first time that by just looking at a diamond from far away you know it is a Louis Vuitton diamond.”
The Louis Vuitton Monogram Star has 53 facets in the form of a four-point star with tapered ends. The space between the four arms of the diamond opens up a new vista into how we see a diamond. By taking away weight from the diamond and making use of negative space, a new chapter in our romance with diamonds is revealed.
The Monogram Star is rooted in the French maison’s history. In order to protect his flat-top steamer trunks from forgery, in 1896 George-Louis Vuitton created a distinctive flower pattern fabric for his luggage, in what is now perhaps one of the most successful stories of branding. This same monogram flower is the starting point for the Monogram Star diamond, now elevated to precious jewellery.
Beautiful in every way, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Star diamond is fully traceable and each solitaire has its own LV Diamonds Certificate. In collaboration with Aura Blockchain Consortium, every step of the stones journey from mine to final jewel is transparent and traceable, giving assurance of provenance and chain of custody.
Amiftheatrof explains the transparency of the chain of custody of the diamonds: ‘We offer a certificate with the LV Diamonds collection that shows the journey of the diamond from its release from the mine all the way through to our stores. So we can really show our clients the journey of the diamond and we are very transparent about it.”
The Louis Vuitton Monogram Star diamond is showcased in the latest fine jewellery collection alongside brilliant-cut diamonds set in strong, graphic-shape rings, unisex bands, earrings and pendants. References to the house’s other iconic fabric pattern, the Damier, or chess board, as well as the ‘V’ shape are woven into this collection of rose gold and platinum jewels. The collection includes bridal jewels with engagement rings and bands featuring the new Monogram Star and brilliant cut diamonds.
