Louis Vuitton goes tribal with the new Tribal Ornament collection inspired by the jewels of the Masai tribe of Kenya in East Africa. Louis Vuitton links all its jewellery collection to travel and adventure. It makes sense as this Parisian house started life making trunks for the intrepid voyagers of yore. Tribal is no exception and the collection visits East Africa and in particular the Masai tribe that wear colourful bead jewellery. Spessartites, multi-coloured sapphires, mandarine garnets and the odd diamond replace the humble bead and the maison's iconic flower and star shapes are woven into the designs. The first jewel from this collection was presented at the Biennale des Antiquaries last autumn. The high jewellery necklace used the same tribal motifs but within a more elaborate structure using very high value stones.( see the piece here). This initial high jewellery piece was the work of Vuitton's jewellery designer Lorenz Baümer. With its bold colour clashes and ethnic motifs, this is a look for style adventurers of the 21st century.
