American designers are offering male buyers exciting new options for men's jewelry that speak understated elegance rather than big-buck bling.

Gone are the days of men's jewelry being the preserve of hip-hop stars, sports champions and Mr T. American designers are offering male buyers endless design-led options that speak understated elegance rather than big-buck bling.

David Yurman's minimalist Meteorite signet ring modernizes a traditional piece of men's jewelry with a faceted piece of the ancient Gibbeon Meteorite, while Monique Pean uses vivid blue woolly mammoth and recycled white gold in her own version of the style.

Todd Reed applies his "raw elegance" to a huge new men's collection, which includes a paving-stone puzzle of raw diamonds in a textured ring that men and women will be fighting to play with. For the man with simpler tastes, Todd offers a textured gold band with a strip of black jade, and Miansai goes for gold with its elegant wide cuff.

Hoorsenbuhs, together with British artist Damien Hirst, has created something for the art lover with the tongue-in-cheek Cathedral collection. The limited-edition Pill ring colorfully mixes rose, yellow and white gold with rubies and black and white diamonds with the brand's signature links. Brand ambassador Kether Parker says the collection is proving popular with both men and women.

Cufflinks have also been given an update. Colette's pair criss-crosses diamonds over deep red-brown jasper while Melissa Joy Manning uses ammonite with fascinating natural stripes of pyrite.

Men, it's time to update that Christmas wish list.
