EDITOR'S REVIEW
This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch sees the iconic watchmakers return to yellow gold in a striking reinvention of the original 1972 piece. Created as the original robust sports watch with “a body of steel and a heart of gold", this latest model is a revision of that equation with a sumptuous yellow gold case and matching bracelet. Conceived along the refreshed lines of the 40th anniversary model released in 2012, this watch has a 37mm case crafted from yellow gold. The self-winding mechanism is powered by the natural movements of the wearer’s wrist, and its blue dial is decorated in a finely wrought “Grande Tapisserie” pattern with yellow gold applied hour markers and Royal Oak luminescent hands. This model features the now-famous octagonal bezel and exposed screws - a design aesthetic originally inspired by old-fashioned diving helmets that attached to a suit with screws - elegantly connecting its robust original design with the lustrous luxury of the modern age.
