EDITOR'S REVIEW
If there is a magician in the watchmaking arena, it is Cartier. Mystery clocks fascinated Louis Cartier and, in 1912, the first model left his workshop and stunned the world with its floating hands, suspended as if by magic. For 2016, Cartier has taken the magic to new heights and made the entire movement of the Rotonde de Cartier Astromystérieux complete a one-hour rotation like a tourbillon in slow motion. The 43.5mm palladium case hosts a fascinating spectacle, as the central axis - bearing the movement and the hands - floats magically in space thanks to the ingenious juxtaposition of four sapphire discs that animate the movement’s components in this mesmerising spatial ballet. The hallmark Roman numerals and blue sapphire cabochon in the crown speak of the Cartier heritage of this watch, which will be presented on a black alligator strap in a limited series of 100 numbered pieces.
