EDITOR'S REVIEW
As home to some of the most iconic watches of the 20th century, Cartier has found inspiration for its watch designs in some of the most unlikely places. Created and worn by Louis Cartier himself, the Louis Cartier Tank watch was inspired by the boxy profile of the Renault armoured battle tanks he encountered during World War I. Modelled on the tank’s clean, rectilinear design, the Cartier Tank watch was first introduced in 1917 and remains one of the Maison’s most popular watches. In yellow gold, with a beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon, this watch displays the classic Roman numerals and railroad minute track of its predecessor, as well as a calendar aperture at 3 o’clock. Water-resistant to 30 metres and presented on an alligator-skin strap with a yellow gold ardillon buckle, its evolution over the years has taken nothing away from the design that set the standard for iconic watches.
