EDITOR'S REVIEW
The De Beers 1888 Master Diamonds collection is dedicated to rare and impressive stones, including this 12.23 carat radiant-cut diamond. The diamond has a rich yellow colour but is in fact a white diamond of a low colour grade – a V-colour. While the rule of thumb in white diamond shopping is to go for as high a colour grade as you can afford, the lower end of the scale offers these warmly hued diamonds than can be a less expensive alternative to yellow diamonds. Good-quality examples of low-colour diamonds – such as this stone, which has a VS2 clarity – are just as rare as top-quality examples of colourless D-colour stones, but are far less expensive. Low-colour grades can be half the price of comparable colourless diamonds and a third less expensive than fancy vivid yellows. This diamond has been set within four 18 carat yellow gold prongs on top of a platinum band.
