EDITOR'S REVIEW
Since it was first developed in the 17th century, the minute repeater has been one of the most complicated functions for a watch. The minute repeater in this IWC Portugieser watch took 50,000 hours to perfect the ideal sound. Within the 44mm platinum case, the classically styled, silver-plate dial has the sophisticated elegance expected from the family of IWC Portugieser watches. Central hour and minute hands tell the time, while a hacking seconds sub-dial is found at 6 o'clock. Operated by depressing the repeating slide button on the case, the hours, quarters and minutes are sounded out with a low strike for the hours, a double chime for the quarters, and a high-pitched gong for the minutes. Powered by more than 200 individual moving parts, the mechanical, hand-wound hunter pocket watch movement, calibre 98950, generates a 46-hour power reserve. This IWC Portugieser Minute Repeater is worn on a black, Santoni alligator leather strap and is limited in number to 500 editions.
