EDITOR'S REVIEW
The Perroquet pendant from Lalique features a pair of black lacquer-tipped gold wings decorated with rows of coloured gemstones - orange and blue sapphires, emeralds and Paraiba tourmalines - and have all been inspired by the eccentric French actress Sarah Bernhardt and her legendary menagerie. One of the world’s most famous actresses, Bernhardt rose to fame in the late 19th century, around the same time that René Lalique was establishing himself as one of France’s foremost Art Nouveau jewellery designers. Known for her flamboyant lifestyle and passionate nature, Bernhardt’s collection of animals included her pet parrot Bizibouzou, as well as several dogs, a monkey, and even a cheetah.
