With a newly opened boutique in Notting Hill, London, and a collection of jewels that force you to look twice, young designer Lauren Adriana has a singular vision: to create powerful jewels for powerful women. A rising star on the jewellery scene, Adriana's Thistle Pendant in 18ct yellow gold is typical of her audacious style. Looking beyond the obvious gemstones, she favours unusual materials, combined in unique ways. Her Thistle Pendant is set with a huge 42ct prasiolite - a transparent quartz also known as green amethyst - freeform cut with ridges at the back of the stone to create a spike-like effect when you look into the gemstone. Dotted all the way along those lethal thistle spikes are pink sapphires and purple iolites, framing that magnificent prasiolite. Given its uncoventional beauty, it may come as little surprise that Adriana was mentored by the cult artist-jeweller Joel Arthur Rosenthal, otherwise known as JAR.
