The 2016 LV Fifty Five collection pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s famous travel trunks of the 19th century and gets its name from the LV logo, which stands for 55 in Roman numerals. The 36mm model in stainless steel is designed for both men and women and follows the elegant lines of the original 1892 aluminium trunk which inspired the collection. The two metal plaques, which have been engraved and riveted at either end of the case, are the most distinctive feature of the collection and refer to the plaques found on the locks of the historic trunks. The dial is satin brushed with a pleasing sunburst motif, punctuated by the letter V at every quarter and an LV signature at 12 o’clock. The 36mm model comes with a mechanical automatic movement to power the hours, minutes and seconds, and is available on a stainless steel strap (€4,000) or a supple calfskin strap (€3,500).
