EDITOR'S REVIEW
The reputed British silversmith Mappin & Webb originally retailed Campaign watches during the First World War, dispatching them to soldiers on the front line for an additional shilling. The new Mappin & Webb Campaign Automatic watch captures the spirit of its ancestors with vintage-style Arabic numerals, elongated straight-sided lugs, and a seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. It has a rugged steel case with “coin edge” detailing, which houses a mechanical Swiss automatic movement. Keeping its military connection alive, the Mappin & Webb Campaign collection is partnered with the charity Never Such Innocence, which was founded by the great-granddaughter of Field Marshal Sir John French who commanded the British Expeditionary Forces from 1914-15. Available in a series of different straps such as this tan crocodile leather one, this watch collection has a bold, forthright look that will resonate with today’s gentleman.
