EDITOR'S REVIEW
One of the big surprises of 2015 was Montblanc’s world timer complication with a tourist-class price tag. Entirely developed and produced in-house, the 41mm stainless steel case houses a mechanical automatic movement, allowing the time in 24 time zones to be displayed at a glance. The novel feature here is the attractive representation of the globe seen from the North Pole and the landmasses, which change colour according to the time of day. The effect is achieved by using two layers of sapphire discs: the continents surrounded by blue oceans have been cut out of a superior sapphire disc and, below the landmasses, another sapphire disc with light and dark areas moves to display whether it is night or day. To use the world timer, a pusher on the side of the case advances the city disc so that you can display your home time at 6 o’clock and then set the local time with the hands. Not only can you consult the time at home and in 24 other time zones thanks to the external 24-hour disc, you can tell whether it is night or day in a very graphic manner.
