EDITOR'S REVIEW
This Pippa Small Turquoise Mountain necklace features a stream of lapis lazuli discs raining down from a gold-plated chain, and was created by a team of craftspeople in Afghanistan for the Pippa Small Turquoise Mountain ethical jewellery project. The project hopes to provide a reliable revenue stream for jewellery-makers who have little opportunity to otherwise support themselves in war-torn Afghanistan. As part of the Shah collection, this lapis lazuli necklace draws inspiration from Afghanistan’s history, in particular the legend of Alexander the Great. Anthropologist-turned-designer Pippa Small has let her imagination run wild, creating jewellery designs she envisioned for Alexander’s Persian bride Roxanne, with whom he settled in Afghanistan centuries ago.
