EDITOR'S REVIEW
The iconic Rolex GMT-Master was designed in 1955 to allow airline pilots to read the time in two different time zones simultaneously and became the official watch of Pan Am pilots. The arrow-tipped hand read off against the 24-hour bezel is used to reference home time while local time is read on the dial and easily set with a mechanism on the winding crown allowing the hour hand to jump without affecting the minute and seconds hands. This 40mm steel model comes with a handsome two-tone blue and black ceramic scratchproof Cerachrom bezel and an inky black lacquer dial. Since legibility is a fundamental factor in a pilot’s watch, the white gold hour markers and hands have been treated with Chromalight, a long-lasting blue-glowing luminescent material patented by Rolex. Equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement, calibre 3186 has passed the official COSC chronometry tests and Rolex’ own in-house Superlative Chronometer trials. A date function and water-resistance to 100 metres make this watch a perfect companion for adventure and everyday wear.
