EDITOR'S REVIEW
Fashionable and bristling with texture and colour, Matthew Campbell Laurenza’s fine jewellery is designed to make a statement. His eponymous brand M.C.L, created in 2007 and based in Thailand, is the fountain of his “wearable sculptures”. As a university graduate of fine arts with a specialisation in sculpture, the discipline gave him “an understanding of volume and how a piece of jewellery sits on the body”. This lively bangle combines Laurenza’s love of multicoloured sapphires with inserts of purple enamel flecked with glitter and sterling silver, with a black rhodium plating for an edgier look. “I don’t look at jewellery with a price in mind but what it does for a person,” says the designer. “A less expensive piece of jewellery can give you as much return on investment as a very expensive jewel.” Agreed.
