EDITOR'S REVIEW
The square face of the TAG Heuer Monaco is one of the icons of modern design, best remembered for appearing on the wrist of Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans. Since then, the chunky square chronograph with the steely blue dial is a bestseller at TAG Heuer perhaps because it still has the power to evoke the days when Steve McQueen, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, thrashed his way round the race circuit. The McQueen association has long overshadowed the fact that the Monaco was one of the very first self-winding chronographs and the first square-shaped water-resistant watchcase. Powered by the automatic Calibre 12, it is 39mm wide and comes on a blue alligator strap with a date window at 6 o’clock.
