EDITOR'S REVIEW
What happens when you combine the skills of a shotgun engraver with an avant-garde watchmaking duo? The answer is the EMC Pistol watch by Urwerk. The first thing that catches the eye is the remarkably ornate case. Florian Güllert, a craftsman specialising in engraving firearms, has engraved the titanium and steel case with swirling patterns in radical contrast to the futuristic sci-fi properties of this watch. The heart of the EMC Pistol watch is just as beguiling and features an optical sensor to monitor the operation of the manual-winding mechanical movement. The idea is that the proud owner will be able to adjust the current rate of the watch - usually a task reserved for watchmakers - thanks to a precision indicator on the dashboard that shows the +/- seconds rate that has been accumulated or lost in a day. A dream come true for cogheads who like to keep their watches spot on the second, the EMC Pistol is a limited edition of just five pieces and comes on a dramatic Nile crocodile strap.
