Christie's held its first ever online auction of jewellery earlier this summer in the US, and this autumn it is building on that success with an online-only sale of Hong Kong Jewels.
From Thursday 19 September, potential buyers are welcome to browse more than 90 lots at www.christies.com/onlineonly. The majority of the lots, comprising diamonds, coloured stones, cultured pearls, jadeites and watches, are from one major private collection, with price points that will make the sale accessible to a wide range of collectors. Bidding ends a fortnight later, on Thursday 3 October.
Highlights of the sale include a ruby and diamond pendant necklace (estimate: HK$60,000 - 80,000), a set of emerald and diamond necklace and ear pendants (estimate: HK$800,000 - 120,000) and a set of cultured pearl, diamond and ruby necklace, ring and ear clips (estimate: HK$80,000 - 120,000). Christie's sale of Hong Kong Jewels is the first time jadeite jewellery has been offered at online auction and will include groups of carved jadeite pendants (estimate HK$8,000 - 12,000) and jadeite, enamel, ruby and diamond jewellery (estimate: HK$20,000 - 30,000).
Speaking of the forthcoming sale, François Curiel, President of Christie's Asia, said: "Hong Kong has become one of the most important jewellery auction centres in the world, alongside Geneva and New York. This September, we will be innovating again by organising our first online-only jewellery sale in Asia. To answer the growing demand for top-quality jewellery at all price levels, we will be presenting a wide range of diamonds, coloured stones, pearls and signed jewels, with attractive estimates accessible to global collectors."
